Upcoming Roadtrips

[via Country Living Magazine]

Ever since Country Living ran a double page fold-out on the Brimfield Antique Show in 2010, which I tore out and tucked into my binder of things I loved - you know, before Pinterest, I have wanted to make a trip out to see it.

Ryan and I decided that this would be the year we made the trip out. He's borrowing a van for two days, we'll throw a mattress in the back, I've booked a campsite to save money on accommodations, and we're heading to Brimfield's for their May 10th to the 15th show.

We are so, so excited.

We're both looking forward to getting lost in the fields of antiques. We're looking forward to spending two days, just the two of us, doing whatever we'd like, whenever we'd like to. We've even mapped out a scenic drive through charming towns for the drive home. And it's less than a week away.

And as if that show isn't enough excitement to look forward to, I have also booked tickets again for this year's Country Living Fair in Rhinebeck, NY.

I did the show two years ago and am looking forward to another mini holiday with most of the same girls this year. Going together makes it so much more affordable, and it's not that it's not worth it, it just means more to spend at the show! You can see photos from our last trip here.

I can't wait to share both trips with you.

If you want to read the original article on Brimfield's, it's here.

  1. You'll love Brimfield! I only live about an hour away so I usually make it up at least once a year (been going since 2000). A few things I've learned over the years: in May, the weather can go between cool and rainy or hot and sunny in a flash so make sure you bring a rainjacket and sunblock and a hat. I carry a backpack to stash my sweater and jacket and hold any tiny 'smalls' I find, Also bring a couple bottles of water so you're not trying to find a beverage vendor/waiting in long lines to rehydrate. I hate to say it, but some vendors turn a hefty profit on a bottle of water. There is usually a vendor at the start of the market (near the church) that sells CD-sized chocolate chip cookies (warm!).

If you get a chance, drive into Sturbridge and visit the bakery at the Publick House - everything is good there! Old Sturbridge Village is nice to walk through to visit the restored homes and gardens. They also have a nice gift shop with things little boys love, if you need presents, such as faux coonskin caps and board games and Colonial drum sets. (I'm an aunt, not a mom, so I always pick noisy presents because growing up, my brothers drove me insane with their noise. Everything comes around!)

    Have a wonderful time!

  2. Oh, you are so lucky! I have always wanted to go there. People say be prepared to be overwhelmed! We have two children who live in Rhode Island, so maybe sometime we can plan our trip out there to RI coincide with Brimfield. What is on your wish list?

    1. Yes, we've heard the same. I actually don't have anything specific. Just whatever calls me! Likely some small ironstone pieces, and maybe some artwork...

  4. It is massive Maria make sure you take good walking shoes.
The day before there is the great textile show at the Sturbridge Inn (at least I think its still there) where there are endless rows of the most tempting lace, buttons, fabrics from the past.
And I have to agree with Wendy the Publick House has the most tempting fare. I loved the soup!
    Enjoy.
