RECLAIMED RUSTICS ~ Exposed Beams

[Country Living]

These exposed beams add so much warmth to this white bedroom. And, the addition of that divine chandelier only highlights them more!

There's something very English about exposed beams in a house. I think it's because it exudes a more cottage feel. Giant timbers running across the ceiling adds such a rustic element to any room. They add character and contrast, especially when paired with crisp white walls. It allows the warmth of the room to fill the entire space, not being limited to just the floors and walls.

Though you would think that having exposed beams would give a room the feeling of grandeur and height, I find they do just the opposite. They draw the eye down, frame a room and make it cozy.

Most beams are already existing in most of these homes. I just like the idea of enhancing the natural and structural elements of the home instead of concealing them. It gives them more purpose than to simply hold the house up; that's why they're featured as this week's Reclaimed Rustic.

I love the simplicity of this bedroom. The beams add even more character and highlight those gorgeous floors beautifully!

This is such a gorgeous space! It's open and spacious, but still completely cozy and intimate!

This is a wonderful kitchen. In this case, lightening and distressing the beams still allows thme to keep their charm, they just fade more into the background and add a little more height to the room.

I love that they've replicated the contrast of the dark beams on the white ceiling with the dark counter tops, and floors with white cabinets. The same goes for the dark accent pieces like the island stools, farm sink and fixtures. How lovely would it be to have a kitchen view like that??
