The Shop Around the Corner

One of the benefits of our new home is that we are now minutes away from my parents and their shop. The boys couldn't be happier about this, and it means that I can pop in and see what's going on whenever I feel like it.

On Friday evening, I popped in to see how they were coming along with flowers for a wedding that Saturday. I love when they have flowers to work on, as the store is filled, and it usually means I can help out.

It's even more fun when the wedding theme is something as elegant and beautiful as this particular one was. It's no surprise that I'm a fan of white and green, and even more so, when they are combined with rustic pieces. This wedding was a perfect combination.

The church arrangements were in old apple crates.

Each table had a smaller version, in a different style crate.

This was the bride's bouquet.

And the bridesmaids carried simple Hydrangea bouquets.

Her boutonnieres were nautical, with simple ribbon and twine.

It was lovely, and my mom did an amazing job.

Bremfield's: The Tour

Now that we have the first week under our belt, I feel like I finally have time to give you a tour of Bremfield's.

Welcome to the store.

Bremfield's is a combination of a floral market, cafe and bakery with some beautiful antiques tucked throughout the store.

The idea was to create a beautiful, inviting place to come in and sit down with a coffee and something sweet. To meet a friend for a simple, home-style lunch and browse lovely vintage finds. To take a cappuccino out to the cafe sets on the sidewalk and watch the boats go through the canal. To take home a pie made with local fruit, and while you're at it, a hand-tied bouquet for your table and a hanging basket for your front porch.

And this is exactly what you'll find when you walk through the door.

And of course, the owners - my mom and dad.

Have I made how proud I am of them clear yet?

If you're able, pop in for a visit.

Left Over Flowers

[All Photos - The Grower's Daughter]

I hope you're all having a restful Sunday. We're so thankful for a quiet day today as a family, with gorgeous weather and nothing to do but relax after a busy, but amazing, weekend.

Both weddings were so beautiful and turned out so perfectly, but there will be photos coming later on them so I won't get into any details!

I just quickly wanted to share some of the most gorgeous flowers that are making my house smell beautiful.

They are left overs from my sister's wedding - White Peonies, which graced the tables and filled her bouquet, and Antique Cream Garden Roses which were for our bouquets (the bridesmaids), and filled old rusty sap buckets around the barn. The Hydrangeas were placed in sap buckets as well (above), and were part of the front of the church for the ceremony, and were also around the head table later.

The cut flowers are so fragrant and brighten every room in my house!

Have a lovely week ladies.

Bridal Bouquet

As promised, here are just a couple photos of the bouquets for last weekend's wedding.

I was really pleased with how they turned out - bright and cheerful. Just like the bride. And the rest turned out perfectly as well. It was my first wedding of the season so I was a bit stressed about getting everything together.

I'm actually just on my way out to the flower shop right now to pick up a few things for some bridal shower bouquets I have to assemble this afternoon. Her colors are various shades of hot pink. Should be fun!

Pots of Spring

At the market this weekend, for the first time, there were a few small pails of pussy willows. I don't know about you, but to me, pussy willows are a sign of spring. I just couldn't resist buying a few bundles.

As I continued through the flowers brought that day, I found some vibrant green roses. These are a variety that I don't normally see at market. They remind me of my mother-in-law. Her favourite colour is a vibrant green and as soon as I saw them, I slowly started to see a beautiful bouquet taking shape. We were going over for coffee the next night, and I thought these would be a lovely little gift.

I grabbed a bunch of the green roses, and went from there. There were some green carnations in a similar shade and some fragrant yellow freesias that would compliment the roses. For a bit of contrast I threw in some white sweetheart roses. These are the exact colours of her kitchen, and many of the accents in her home.

It was the pussy willows that really made the bouquet though. I had enough to make up a little arrangement for her in an old milk glass vase, and a smaller version for my sister-in-law. They didn't take much time to put together and the end result is just so fresh and vibrant, like spring in a pot!

An arrangement needn't be large to make a big impact. This one is the perfect size for any spot.

The yellow freesias and the crisp white sweetheart roses add the right amount of contrast to this arrangement. The Spanish moss and pussy willows give it a more natural feel.

Wedding Bouquet - Trial

I went to market this morning to pick up some flowers to do my trial bridal bouquet for an upcoming wedding I have this month.

These wedding colours - orange, red and pink - suit this bride perfectly. She's someone who is bright, contagiously happy, and very vibrant. Told you ... perfect match. But, that's how it goes.

I thought I would post a few photos of what it turned out like. I was pretty impressed at what was all available locally today. The actual bouquet won't have as many roses, and will included a few luscious, pink peonies, hints of pink wax flower here and there, and a few pops of bright orange - maybe a lily or two.

Happy Saturday!
