Waiting Out the Rain

[Martha Stewart Living]

This morning we awoke to the sounds of rain, again. It's put a damper on my plans to prepare my raised beds in my vegetable garden. Our patch consists of four 4 x 4 raised plots, an 8 x 8 unraised plot, a few feet of raspberry bushes and a small cluster of rhubarb.

The beds need to be weeded and raked because it's almost time for me to begin planting. But, all this rain is making for some overly muddy soil, not dry enough for prepping.

They are forecasting periods of sun for the middle of the week, so hopefully I will be able to get out there soon!

If only I had a glass house to work in... Wouldn't it be a lovely way to spend a rainy day?

It wouldn't even have to be large... This one is the perfect size!

Happy Monday girls.

PS. 50 billionth attempt at making proper French Macarons - - - failed. Again. Why can't I just give up and move on?

Later that afternoon...

I'm happy to report that the rain momentarily let up this afternoon, so on went the boots, and outside we went! Garden prepping has officially begun.

Every time I got them perfectly leveled, along he came with his rake.

His rubber boots are his favourite. When he was just learning to stand, they came all the way up his thighs, so they helped balance him. It was the cutest thing... they still are.

  1. Don't give up on those French Macarons---you will succeed! What lovely glass greenhouses. I can picture being inside surrounded by flowers and watching and listening to the raindrops against the window panes-you are so right-such a nice way to spend a rainy day.

Good luck with your prepping and planting. It has been too cold here to prep and plant as well-unusual for us as May usually brings lots of sunshine.

  2. What a beautiful place to pot about in, your own veggie garden and how cute is your little champ in his boots?! You have inspired me to rethink our own veg garden. I gave up on it but think I will try again and get the ground just right through Winter ready for SPring -thanks.

  5. It's frustrating when you can't get on.We have had lovely weather here in Ireland for several weeks,(very unusual for us) but now its back to rain! I love the name of your blog. Apparently, you shouldn't attempt ot make macaroons if there is any dampness in the atmosphere, make on a sunny day! Good luck with the gardening, love Linda x

  8. I always wanted my house to be made mostly of glass. I love sunlight and in winter time it's too cold for me to tan. Even if I had a room that was made mostly of glass I would love that. Natural light is so nice and helpful to me. Windows are expensive but long term you will save money in comprehension to what you pay in the daytime to light your home.
